On October 25th Postmusik Salzburg dedicated their autumn concert to Johann Strauss, who celebrated his 200th birthday on that day.
Symphonic wind music had not yet been invented during Johann Strauss’ lifetime, but he would certainly have been delighted to hear his compositions performed by this orchestra. From delicate piano to brilliant fortissimo, from high woodwinds to low brass – conductor Martin Schwab illustrated the fantastic music of the King of Walz in various facets of symphonic wind music, and the orchester performed in highest quality.
Postmusik Salzburg celebrated Strauß with the elevator march from “A Night in Venice,” the “Fledermaus” overture, and the intermezzo from “1001 Nights.”
After the sounds of Strauß Astrid Hinterberger-Stumpfl, Vanessa Blaha, and Matthias Mair-Zeininger impressed the audience with excerpts from the musical Elisabeth. Then the orchestra took the audience back on a journey to the music of the 20th century.
A higlight of the second part of the concert was the soundtrack of “The Prince of Egypt” including “When You Believe”. Particular thrilling was Silvia Halek singing in Hebrew.
Vokale Randale performed as special guests of Postmusik Salzburg and provided an extraordinary experience with their interpretation of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody. A final highlight was the Star Wars Saga, where the orchestra demonstrated technical perfection.
