Salzburg and Dresden are celebrating their 35th anniversary of city partnership this year. To mark the occasion, a grand celebratory concert featuring Postmusik Salzburg, Bläserphilharmonie Dresden, and students from the Sassari Academy of Music took place on March 22nd at the Dresden Kulturpalast. 135 musicians performed the Juvavum Fanfare (A. Ziegelbäck), Kaiserin von Österreich – Sisi (O.M. Schwarz), the Shenandoah Fantasy, in which Helmut Fuchs gave an excellent performance as solo trumpeter, and, as highlight, Eine Alpensinfonie by Richard Strauss. Martin Schwab (Postmusik Salzburg) conducted the first part and Andrea Barizza (Bläserphilharmonie Dresden) the second part of this impressive concert. As an encore, the finale of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, featuring the European anthem “Ode to Joy,” was performed as a symbol of peace, unity, and understanding in Europe.
As the second musical highlight of the celebrations marking the city partnership between Salzburg and Dresden, the two orchesteras will give another joint concert on May 22, 2027, at the Salzburg Festival Hall under the motto “On the Road in Europe.” The program includes Symphonic Dance No. 3 by C. Williams, the Festive Prelude by R. Strauss, the Trumpet Concerto Op. 18 by Oskar Böhme with solo trumpeter Helmut Fuchs, the Adagio from the 3rd Symphony by Camille Saint-Saëns, Bulgarian Dances No. 2 by Franco Cesarini, and HuntingTower by Ottorino Respighi.
